Book Review: Dog Park Journal – The Social Round of Goody Beagle by Kim Pearson

I always had a soft spot for dogs, each has its own character and its unique charm. I also seem to attract them like a magnet. Case in point, I just moved to a sleepy little town in Mississippi and have already made a new "best friend", a rather timid four-legged creature who lives across the street. I have no idea what his name is. I call it "Scardy Dog. I just have to make an appearance on the porch and he came running to say hello. It also has great road sense, stopping at the edge the sidewalk and look both ways before crossing. He is also afraid of his shadow, a fast moving and left like a hare.

Kim Pearson and Anne Lindsay clearly share my affinity with our four-legged friends, and Dog Park Diary is exquisitely executed and very fun to watch their pets, best friends and their pets.

The action takes place in Robinswood Dog Park in Bellevue, Washington. A sanctuary where those pesky leashes can be discarded, and dogs may be dogs. It is the social summit for dogs who live in the neighborhood.

The hero of the story is a Beagle Dr. Jane Goodall, but as she says most people call it Goody. Goody is our guide and mentor in this journey of discovery doggy. One of the first lessons that Goody introduces us to the label is doggy and the importance of play "Butt-sniffing," is the equivalent of Dog we humans, saying "hello, how are you today, but also much more, you can tell if the other dog is sad or happy, friend from foe. As Goody says:

I think the man should sniff-butt too. Maybe they would not fight so often.

They Search is pretty funny though.

I liked Dog Park newspaper and Goody's explanation of the dog world. Although this book could be seemed to be aimed at the children's market it contains some aspects that may be a parent would not want to deal with their young children. bodily functions are always a great attraction for young people, and bodily functions do not get a mention or two.

Photography by Anne Lindsay is superb, it matches the text so well. The two creators of this book deserve enormous credit. While this may seem a very niche work, it is worth trying. I really appreciated. Using minimal text Kim Pearson tells the story in a way that makes every word count. Goody takes a personae of the first page. Emphasizing early on that she is a she dog, and as such has its ways, not like those noisy dogs men! "Some even pee in the bowl of water she says with disgust.

Dog Park newspaper may be the stuff that appears on the list of the New York Times bestseller, but I'm sure it will find its way into the homes of dog lovers.
